A Merry and Bright Weekend Ahead

1526700_808721165853012_2419447721004184489_nThis Saturday, December 6th, marks the final Gallery Night of 2014.  It is considered by many to be the most special one of all. Candlelit luminaries will line the sidewalks and downtown Mineral Point will be merry and bright.

But Gallery night is just a part of the many activities scheduled for this very festive weekend.

Here’s the rundown:

At The Gundry House, Coleman performs “A Child’s Christmas in Wales,” celebrating what would be the 100th birthday of Dylan Thomas with songs by Benjamin Britten, performed by Jennifer DeCoste and Leslie Damaso. There are four performances this weekend starting tonight, Thursday, and continuing Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm, with a matinee Sunday at 2pm.Tickets are available at Berget’s or at the door. $15 for adults, $5 for children.

At the Opera House, The Driftless Film Festival begins its monthly film series with “Jingle Bell Rocks!” This documentary about the the best Christmas songs you’ve never heard will show twice this weekend, Friday night at 7pm and Sunday afternoon at 2pm. FRIDAY, December 5th

7pm – Jingle Bell Rocks! at the Opera House

7:30pm – “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” at The Gundry House

8:30 p.m – Live music at The Gray Dog – Rick Harris, Paul Biere, Mike Wolkomir and Mark Shanahan perform.

SATURDAY, December 6th – GALLERY NIGHT!

8am-2pm Christmas Cookie and Candy Sale – Faith Lutheran Church. Last year they had 44 varieties of cookies and candies. They will be providing complimentary hot beverages.

9am-3pm – Holiday Fair at Trinity Church – This is the 58th Annual Holiday Fair and features baked goods, candy, Christmas decorations, crafts, pie and coffee. Lunch is served from 10:30am-3pm. The raffle drawing is at 2pm.

9am-12pm – Hazelnut Cafe (the bakery from the Mineral Point Farmer’s Market), will be selling cinnamon rolls, danishes, cookies, breads and croissants at High Street Sweets.

10am-3pm – Santa Day at Shake Rag Alley. Photos with Santa from 10am -12pm. Family fun Christmas crafts from 10am-3pm.

5:30pm – until chestnuts are gone! – Kiwanis Chestnut roast on the corner of High and Chestnut Streets. Chestnuts are free and donations are welcome. This year, all donations will go toward the UCC Church’s monthly community meals.

6pm – 9pm Gala Dinner at The Walker House – The Mineral Point High School Art Department is providing a four course lasagna dinner starting at 6pm. High School student artwork will be on display and for sale from 7-9pm. Touring the gallery is free. Dinner tickets are $15 for those 12 and older, $8 for children 6-12, and can be purchased at the door. Half of the proceeds will benefit the High School Art Department.

7:30 pm – A Child’s Christmas in Wales at The Gundry House.

Gallery Night and Candlelit Shopping – Galleries and participating shops and restaurants will be open late, and many will begin festivities early. Come out and join the fun!

SUNDAY, December 7th

12:55 pm, Veterans remember Pearl Harbor at the appointed hour in Library Park

2pm – A Child’s Christmas in Wales at The Gundry House

2pm – Jingle Bell Rocks! at The Opera House
